Artist Statement

I am a mixed media artist interested in exploring texture and vibrant colours with light and dark tones so the finished work ‘dances’ in people’s eyes. They are an exploration of flow and movement, using sweeping textures and sharp lines to complement each other.

For these works I use moulding paste to create the texture base, these shapes are roughly planned, but as a semi fluid state, the end result is by chance . Rich oil paint colours are blended over and I attempt to harmonize the colour and textures together into a cohesive finished artwork.

Lately I have been exploring the matte effects of acrylic paints, I find these show a quiet darkness that compliment the textures in a different way to oil paints. Having to work quickly also brings a new energy to my brushstrokes.

As an artist, my journey from exploring the world of abstract art to venturing into the realm of digital illustration of women's portraits has been nothing short of transformative. While abstract art allowed me to tap into the depths of my emotions and express them through vibrant brushstrokes and captivating textures, the allure of digital illustration and it’s endless possibilities captured my curiosity. The ability to create intricate details and highlight the unique features of women's faces became my newfound passion in 2023.

Artist Bio

Victoria FitzGerald is a mixed media abstract artist exploring the balance between texture and colours. Living in Wyndham Vale, Victoria works full time in a different industry and finds time outside these hours to paint. Victoria attended the Gordon Tafe in Geelong to start a Diploma and Degree in Fine Art.

Victoria has been experimenting to find her style since 2013 after a long break from painting.

The painting series “state of being alphabet” was created to enable free experimentation in styles and techniques while finding her preferred style.

Starting with watercolours, moving to acrylic on paper and ink pen and now into what she is currently using; textured oil paintings utilising moulding paste as a textural base to give depth to the colourful works.

Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Victoria seamlessly weaves elements of nature, emotions, and experiences into her creations. Her art serves as a gateway into a realm of vivid imagination, where colors and shapes intertwine, forming intricate narratives that speak to the depths of the human experience.
One key aspect of Victoria's work is her fascination with textures. She skillfully manipulates various materials, including acrylics, oils, and mixed media, to create captivating tactile compositions. By layering and sculpting these materials on canvas, she produces mesmerizing movements and visually striking patterns that engage the viewer on both a visual and sensory level.
